Bargaining Update - May 8, 2015
As you are aware, Albertans elected the NDP to lead its government on May 5.
Your bargaining committee is hopeful our new government will bring a fresh, productive and respectful approach to labour relations in Alberta.
The task of transition for the new government is enormous. From a throne speech, to a new cabinet, new budget, new staff and even the possibility of new senior personnel, it will take a bit of time for things to become clear.
With that, we need to allow for a reasonable amount of time for these changes to take place.
Regardless, our goal to achieve a fair collective agreement remains intact.
After consulting with our legal counsel, it was decided to delay hearings on our bargaining in bad faith complaint until the new government has a chance to settle in. We want to give the new minister, whoever that might be, an opportunity to review the situation. Once we have a clearer picture of where things stand on the employer side, we can decide what steps need to be taken.
We look forward to working with the new government.
